Weather

Keeping an eye on the weather
1. Based only on the weather, where in the world would you most like to live? Where would you not like to live?
A: In my personal opinion, I would most like to live San Francisco Bay Area because the climate here is neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summar. The climate here is the Mediterranean climate, it's very comfortable to live here. On the other hand, I would not most like to live some places like New York and even my hometown. In spite of New York is a very modern and fashion city which I like very much, but if I have a choice to live, I would not live in New York because it's too cold in winter. I'm very afraid of the cold weather.

2. People in some lines of work need to pay close attention to weather forecasts.
What are some examples of occupations where the weather is particularly important?
Why is the weather so important for them?
A: For my part, the occupation such as fishing at the sea where the weather is particularly important. If there is a strong wind at sea, it's very dangerous for fishing. It may throw down the fishing vessel.

3. In United States, people say that when pine cones close up, rain is coming. What are some other non-technological ways of predicting the weather.
A: When the dragonflies fly lower than usual, it might have a rain right now because the air pressure is low. In addition, it would rain soon when you see the ants move their home from a lower place to a higher.

Nature's weather forecasters

A: I can observe the behavior about the ants move their homes from lower to higher easily because ants are very ordinary for us to be seen.

2. Which other wild animals do you know of that behave differently before a storm?
A: In my hometown, when you see the swallows pick up a lot of branches to strengthen their nests, it means a strong storm will come soon.

3. Do you notice that your own behavior changes before a storm? If so, how?
A: I never mind a storm except I would go out while the storm is coming.

Could you survive a natural disaster?
1. Which of the advice in the reading do you already follow? Which of the advice do you think is not very useful?
A: I suppose I would follow the acvice that move our pessessions to higher floors when floods come. On the contrary, I gusee that fill your gas tank, and prepare your car for evacuation is useless.

2. What things in your home could be dangerous during a natural disaster?
A: I think the crystal chandelier in the living room is very dangerous when an earthquake happens.

3. What other natural disaster can you think of? How can you prepare for them?
A: For example, the debris blow and volcanic eruption are the destructive natural disasters. However, I never went through these disasters, consequencely, I don't know how to prepare for them.
